Getting
to Know…John Warren
What
individuals have influenced you most and how?
My grandfather. He insisted that all of his grandchildren receive
as much education as possible. For me that meant becoming the
first grandchild to go to college and to receive a graduate
degree. He also taught me how to negotiate. Although he was
not formally educated in business, he bought and sold real estate
as sort of a hobby for the last ten years of his life. He did
quite well, and I learned valuable lessons just observing his
negotiating skills. The other person that I must mention is
Rev. Keith Reece who led me to Christ. Keith is the pastor of
Faith Baptist Church. Keith is the first pastor that I can recall
getting to know who loved me in spite of my sin.
What
would surprise us to know about you?
For anyone who knew me before I trusted in Christ, they would
be surprised to see the changes in my life. I am a completely
different person, and I’m thankful for God’s transforming
grace. I’m also a colon cancer survivor. I think that
fact might surprise people who don’t know me well.
What
is your favorite verse of scripture?
Isa.41:10: Fear thou not; for I [am] with thee: be not dismayed;
for I [am] thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help
thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
What
hidden talent do you have?
I play guitar and sing for fun, but I’m not sure that
I’m proficient enough at either to call them talents.
Thankfully, they ARE hidden for the most part.
At
what age did you trust Christ as your Savior?
I had a childhood conversion experience that I doubted as an
adult. I settled the matter and truly trusted Christ at age
40.
Do
you have any pets?
Two dogs: Gus and Rosy – Standard Poodles. They allow
us to share their house with them.
