Getting
to Know … D. Jon Thurman
President,
Westbrook Service Corporation
What
individuals have influenced you most and how?
In July 1979 the Lord sent an angel into my life in the form
of a businessman mentor who taught me three things; the human
side of enterprise, how to live out my faith in the marketplace
and how to integrate an authentic love for others in my work.
What
is your favorite verse of scripture?
II Corinthians 12:9b where Paul writes, “I therefore,
Paul, will boast all the more of my weakness so as to rest in
[the Lord’s] strength.” Translation: There is strength
in transparency!
What
is your favorite hymn?
It’s a tossup. These Are the Days of Elijah and/or The
Sojourner’s Song.
What
is your favorite food?
Mexican followed by some good German chocolate cake (in moderation).
What
was the best book you have read - what book would you recommend?
Practicing the Presence of People by Mike Mason. In fact, I
liked it so much I wrote a study guide for it.
What
hidden talent do you have?
Singing except I can’t read music.
At
what age did you trust Christ as your Savior?
At age thirteen but I must tell you I didn’t really understand
God’s grace until I was in my twenties.
Do
you have any pets?
A $10 boxer mix from the pound that my kids love more than I
do.
What
do you do to relax and have fun?
Getting in some good “hang time” with others with
no agenda other than to feast on fellowship.
